Destroying Angels

Ok, sorry, another long post.  As we were packing up and cleaning our house, we started noticing and discussing all the damage our kids have done to it.  So for posterity's sake, when my children have kids of their own in several more years, and they turn out just like their parent, whom I cursed long ago with this, and they say "Mom, I wasn't nearly this bad, was I?" I can say, yes, my dearest child, you were rotten!  Then I'll laugh my evil laugh and go back to my soap operas and bonbons, since there was no time for them in my younger years.

To protect the innocent (and guilty), we won't use names.  You'll have to guess on your own:)

This one was the most recent damage done before we moved out.  We have a chair that lost its back legs several years ago, probably due to one of our children, and now just has screws sticking out.  During our move, the chair was mistakenly put on our wood floors.  "Someone" decided to spin it, and left a nice 360 ring with a few gouges in the floor.  This picture just shows the gouges.  That was a nice surprise to find.
One daughter is fond of slamming doors.  Hard.  One day, early in our living in our home, she slammed the garage door so hard that the iron filigree hanging above the window fell and took a bite out of the windowsill.  It also broke on impact.

Not long after we had the doors made for these cupboards, we came home from a date to find that they had been broken off, including the casing.

Multiple children were responsible for this one.  They snapped off several slats from the blinds.  This is just one of many that had been broken.
This one got repaired already, but someone got so mad when doing the dishes one day that she slammed the cupboard door, shattering the glass in the left side.  It's lucky she didn't slice an artery on it.

Ok, this one was accidental, but still left a lasting mark.  Savannah took a bite out of the floor and lost half of both her front teeth.

I think this one takes the cake for most expensive incident.  One Christmas morning, while making breakfast, Scott found a little munchkin in his office, with a butter knife, standing on his desk, prying keys off his laptop keyboard.  Since then, Scott has to use another keyboard, and now a new screen.  It's quite ghetto.
This was a big gouge in the living room wall, put there by "Not Me", our invisible resident.
A hole made in the wall behind the twins' room door.  It has grown with a little picking by little fingers.
A hole kicked in the wall by one of our little princesses.
The same princess kicked her closet doors off.
And scratched the railing in multiple places.
When Brighton was a baby, we were appalled to discover that an older sister had "teethed" on the side of his brand new crib.  Since then, all 3 younger ones have added their own teeth marks.  Who needs teething rings?
One little son decided to turn the chair sideways and step on the spindles.  One big snap, and it was in 3 irrepairable pieces.
More broken chairs.  Someone tried to "fix" it by pulling it further apart.  Arg!
And another chair, tipped over, kicked over, jumped on, abused.  Sigh...
When one little darling was 2, he took a hammer to the back door, fridge, and side and back of the van.

And everybody knows about this one!
2 lovely children decided to pull the insulation off the basement wall, pretending it was cotton candy.  This one came with its own lesson when the itchiness set in.  heehee!
One child used the rails from an old canopy bed for his own teeter totter.  Too bent for future use.
The hole was caused long ago; the paint was a recent addition.
Despite all that, we love each and every one of our little monsters.  One day we'll laugh about all the crap they've destroyed.  And Scott and I will laugh even harder when they are dealing with their own little monkies.  Does anyone else have kids that outshine Dennis the Menace?

Ha, ha! I was totally laughing at your first paragraph. The thought of some kind of futer payback is what gets us parents through some days, isn't it? I'm glad that everyone survived all of the incidents (and punishments that followed?) and will live to someday laugh about it. It drives me crazy to watch household things get damaged or destroyed by my kids. Surly I NEVER did anything like that as a kid:)
