For Brighton's 7th birthday, we decided to have a Scooby Doo party. I wanted to do this last year, but was too prego to do the work. I was happy he still loves Scooby so I could do it this year. He invited a few friends, his cousins, and siblings, of course.
We dressed his siblings up as The Scooby Gang, and everybody else got Scooby headbands as they came in, with Scooby ___ written on them. Waverly also asked Scott to dress her as Scooby.
Aren't they so cute???
We brought everyone out for cake and ice cream first, but when we went to uncover the cake, it was missing! What's a Scooby Doo party without a mystery? Inside the cake pan was this note from the Birthday Phantom.
The first activity they had to do was to help Velma find her glasses, since she is always losing her glasses.
Waverly Doo put her nose down to sniff out the clues. Like a true dog, she kept her little behind in the air. Velma's glasses were located underneath the utility meter, and the next clue was awarded.
As in every episode, Shaggy and Scooby are chased by a Phantom. We played Scooby, Scooby Phantom until everyone had a turn and they earned another clue.
After every clue, everyone was given a Scooby snack by Daphne.
The next obstacle was to mummify Shaggy and Scooby. We split the kids up into a boys and girls team, and they raced against each other to mummify one team member: Brighton for the boys and Waverly for the girls. The boys won. Then the mummies had to tag each member of the opposite team before the next clue was awarded (and a Scooby snack, of course).
Last, the gang had to show their skills in driving The Mystery Machine to get away from Phantoms. I was glad for a chance to reuse Brighton's Kindy Kar from Kindergarten. They had to maneuver around an obstacle course and back in a relay. As each child finished, they took it upon themselves to chase each other around the course. Cones? What cones?
Keaton is a fast little dude. I think this kid's got track and field in his future.
After the Mystery Machine race, we were ready to capture the Phantom. The kids had to come up with a plan to lure him to the trap they came up with. And, of course, the bait had to be Shaggy and Scooby. They hesitated, but agreed to do it for 5 Scooby snacks.
They carefully entered the Phantom's Domain...
They looked high and low, but couldn't find him til the Phantom began to growl. Good thing that Phantom slipped up by making noise. He was discovered hiding in the front hall closet.
A chase ensued...
And the bait worked! That Phantom fell for it!
The Gang captured him between the sheets for the obstacle course. Now to find out who's behind all the mayhem...
It was Dad! What a shock! And he would have gotten away with it, if it weren't for those meddling kids. He handed over the clue decoder, which the kids had to use to decode the rest of the clue cards they had gotten earlier. Cami was the sleuth that figured most of it out.
Brighton was the scribe.
Cute Keaton. I can't help myself. The camera loves him! Especially his cute ascot.
The cake was discovered hidden in the Mystery Machine. Savannah was responsible for decking out our Mystery Machine. (See that nice dent below the sign? Yeah, that was me, one month after buying the van. Stupid bank with its stupid yellow cement cones that are too squishy for a big-butt van to fit between).

Ok, so funny story about the above photo. I've written about our family's apparently strange tradition of birthday bonking. The kids insist we do it at friend birthday parties too. It's even stretching into Christmas. {any excuse to legitimately hit someone and get away with it!} So this friend was the first to give Brighton his gift. {Ironically his name is Keaton, one of the only other ones we know}. One of the kids said to bonk Brighton. So, remember last year when this happened with another friend who clonked Brighton on his head with his fist. Keaton's interpretation of bonking was to head butt Brighton. So funny!! Brighton got a robot kit from Keaton, which was perfect for Brighton.
From Marcus, the fist bonking friend, he got a piggy bank.
From Cami and Cadi he got a new coat. He was very excited, evidently. He lost his new one last year at school, much to my exasperation.
And one more picture of my cute little dudes. Happy Birthday, Brighton!
